High Plains Church Unitarian Universalist

Minister and Staff

Minister: Rev. Dana Lightsey

The High Plains Church, Unitarian Universalist community extends a warm welcome to our new Developmental Minister, Dana Lightsey. Formerly the consulting Assistant Minister at Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden, CO, Dana joined High Plains Church, UU in August, 2014.

As a transition specialist, Rev. Lightsey worked with the leaders of the Jefferson Unitarian Church to build new and effective systems within the church. She also helped them create a new approach to social justice work based on a more inclusive and active approach to making a difference in people’s lives.

Dana is passionate about bringing a healing transformation into the world through the power of love. She believes this is best accomplished through the work of collaboration with other faith communities, non-profits and businesses. Some of her work includes working closely with undocumented immigrants, advocating at the state capitol for civil marriage, participating in and supporting rallies on behalf of gun safety, promoting climate change awareness, and advocating for those living in poverty.

Music Director: Joe Uveges

On a typical Sunday service our Music Director, Joe Uveges, performs and leads the congregation in singing hymns and songs. Joe helps make the Sunday service a communal musical event. Hymns are pertinent to the message. It is "congregation as choir" as often as not, and special music often varies between poignant and fun, sweet and rousing.

The choir performs special music as well, and once a month the house band highlights the work of a particular songwriter. In the last year they have featured groups as diverse as Mumford and Sons, John Denver, Pink Floyd, REM, James Taylor, Beach Boys and U2.
