High Plains Church Unitarian Universalist

Charitable Contributions

High Plains member reach out to the community in broadly diversified ways that allow members to learn about, support financially, and contribute their time and talents to local organizations making a difference in our community.

Fourth Sunday Collection

One Sunday each month, offerings from the congregation go to a non-profit group that represents Unitarian Universalist (UU) principles. Each organization is given time during the service to talk about its mission and activities. A partial list of the organizations High Plains has helped to support in this way includes:

  • Bikers Against Child Abuse
  • Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center
  • Autism and Asperser Connections
  • Care 4 Kids Worldwide
  • CERF-UUA (Hurricane Sandy relief)
  • MDD Fire Relief Fund (Waldo Canon fire relief)
  • Colorado Springs Pridefest
  • Middle East Peace Project
  • TESSA (domestic violence victim assistance)
  • Colorado Springs Youth Symphony
  • Interfaith Hospitality Network (help for homeless families)

If interested in taking up a collection for a particular charity, contact Alcira Estevez at office@hpcuu.org.

American Charities

The church conducts a weekly food collection for delivery to a distribution center for those in need. For more information contact Tamara Latham at office@hpcuu.org.

Guest at Your Table

Each year UUs of all ages take part in the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee program, Guest at Your Table. This program has been an important part of the UUSC since 1975. Participants take home a contribution box or envelope on a Sunday near Thanksgiving and return it the second Sunday in January. The money collected goes to support the work of the UUSC in four areas: Humanitarian Crises, Civil Liberties, Economic Justice, and Environmental Justice. To help with this program, contact the Rev. Dana Lightsey at minister@hpcuu.org.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

This national fundraising program empowers children to raise money for the United Nations Children’s Fund while doing their trick-or-treating on Halloween. Participants take home a trick-or-treat box to take with them on their holiday adventures and return boxes to the church the following week. All money collected is sent directly to UNICEF to provide aid to children all over the globe. To help with this program, contact Director of Faith Formation, Jessica Laike, at dff@hpcuu.org.
