High Plains Church Unitarian Universalist

Human Rights

High Plains members are engaged in a number of programs that promote human rights and social justice.

Welcoming Congregation

The first guiding principle of Unitarian Universalism is the commitment to “affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person.” HPCUU continues to deepen our long-standing commitment to the full inclusion and affirmation of all persons, without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity.

In 1998, High Plains Church became an official Welcoming Congregation in an effort to be more fully inclusive. As a Welcoming Congregation, we are committed to the following:

  • We are inclusive and expressive of the concerns of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning) persons at every level of congregational life.
  • We celebrate the lives of all people and welcome same-gender couples, recognizing their committed relationships.
  • We offer congregational and ministerial support for services of union and memorial services for LGBTQ persons.
  • We seek to nurture ongoing dialogue among people of all gender identities and to create deeper trust and sharing.
  • We advocate for LGBTQ people and work to promote justice, freedom, and equality in the larger society.
  • We speak out when the rights and dignity of LGBTQ people are at stake.

High Plains Church is currently in the process of formally renewing our commitment as a Welcoming Congregation in an effort to deepen and expand our “Welcoming” status. If you are interested in finding out more about this process, please contact us at Welcome@hpcuu.org.

PrideFest

HPCUU is proud to be an active participant in the annual Colorado Springs PrideFest celebration. We encourage our members and friends to join in the fun by attending the festival and being part of the parade. We also participate in the vendor exhibits by setting up a booth, at which we provide information about Unitarian Universalism and High Plains Church. For more information or to participate in the planning, contact the Welcoming Congregation Renewal Committee at Welcoming@hpcuu.org.
